Singing

Singing is one of the things I love to do, I’m not a great singer by any means, but I enjoy it! I sing along to the radio in the car, sing karaoke at home and I sing with a choir (a rock/pop choir not a church choir)!

Singing is good for the soul and wellbeing – if you’re having a bad day, put your favourite songs on and sing, I bet you’ll feel a whole lot better. There are physical health benefits too as it can help improve lung capacity and also helps improve your memory, and believe it or not, it burns off a few calories too.

If like me, you want to learn to sing different songs and sing with others, then there are many different types of choirs across the UK. I previously (pre Covid) sang with Rock Choir but now sing with a similar but smaller local choir rather than a national chain. Most choirs offer a taster session so you can see if it’s for you before you commit and pay for membership and it is worth trying a couple to find one you feel is right for you. The great thing about belonging to one of these types of choir is that you don’t need to audition, literally anyone can join. Whilst you’re encouraged to take part in concerts, there is no obligation to if you don’t feel confident enough.

Go on, give it a go, google choirs in your area, see what’s about and go sing!
