Back in 2016, I heard about this app being launched….I downloaded it to my phone as soon as it was available and the rest is history
Mr Fixit & I were hooked and quickly become daily Pokemon Go players and now 10 years on, he’s lost interest but I still play every day! It’s not cool like it was just after it’s launch in 2016 but it’s become quite a cult game and in our hometown it still has quite a big following.
The game has evolved vastly since it’s launch in 2016, more recently so because Niantic, who developed Pokemon Go, sold it’s games including PoGo to another company in 2025, although there had been many changes & developments long before that to keep players engaged. There are now regular events, weekly challenges to complete with fellow Pokemon Go friends and monthly challenges.
One of the original aims of the game was to encourage players to go out and about in the fresh air and improve their daily step count and the game hasn’t changed in that aspect; whilst you can catch a few Pokemon from the comfort of your sofa, all the challenges & events require a bit more effort!
Ten years after the game’s launch, I don’t see myself stopping playing anytime soon, and catching a shiny ‘mon, still makes me happy! If you’ve never played or stopped playing after the game stopped being ‘cool’, maybe you should given it a try……Gotta Catch ‘Em All!
